This module is located fully on the web with the:

accessible as you navigate through this module. However, some of the set readings in this module are not accessible via the web - these will be noted throughout the module and you may access these in your print package. You are not required to read all of the materials - read those you feel are interesting and/or relevant to the course you intend to take in completing this module.

Introduction

Module one aims to refresh your understanding of child development which you would have visited in your undergraduate study.

As teachers we are aware of individual childrens' development on a daily basis and must consider this in our planning and organisation. Take a minute to consider what you believe constitutes child development and consider some of it's more detailed facets.

Recommended readings

I encourage you to not only consult the readings in this module, but to also read widely in an attempt to understand some of the issues associated with the various topics. If you need to refresh your understanding of Child Development, or if you do not have access to the web, I suggest you consult a text in the field as you progress through each topic area. The following two sources are strongly recommended for use in this area: These sources are merely suggestions. It is up to your discretion to choose those sources that best meet your needs as learner.

Stop and think

Post a response on the forum

I encourage you to frequently access the forum to discuss your experiences and findings with your peers. It is often at this level where some of the most significant learning takes place.

Let us start by introducing ourselves to the class, on the forum. Tell everyone a little bit about yourself: where you work, how long you have been working, and why you have enrolled in this course. You'll see that I've introduced myself there too.

Try to make at least two postings on the web throughout your study of this module. Make this very first one a practice one.
