Wakeman's horn

At 9 pm daily in Ripon, Yorkshire, the "Blasting of the Wakeman's horn" takes place. The "blasting" has been a daily event for well over 1000 years, announcing the end of the day and that all was secure. Although now something of a tourist attraction, the ceremony is a visual (aural?) link to the town's early history and, perhaps, a commemoration of 1000 years of civic history.
