Chief investigators

Each of the Chief Investigators brings to the project a high level of expertise in the field of early childhood education, evaluation and policy development. Details in the About the Project: Further Reading attests to their standing in the field of early childhood education, and in the area of children's transition to school, in particular. In addition, the Chief Investigator has had experience in the development and implementation of early childhood programs, evaluation of programs, and the development, application and evaluation of policy. Specific examples of the latter include an evaluation of the state wide early literacy programs in disadvantaged schools conducted by both Chief Investigators in 1995-6, evaluation of the Disadvantaged Schools Program in NSW (both Chief Investigators), membership of policy making bodies (Sue Dockett in early childhood representative on the NSW Board of Studies, the NSW Department of Education and Training Early Childhood Reference Group and Chair of the KU Children's Services Education Committee; Bob Perry is an ongoing consultant with the Australian Early Childhood Association). The Chief Investigators were the joint convenors of the UWS Macarthur symposium on children starting school which brought together researchers across Australia who are working in this important area of early childhood education.
